There’s a fair amount of content flying around the web at the moment in preparation for the new “86″ Toyota that is due to be released later this year. The successor to the legendary AE86 will have a lot to live up to, and in a lot of enthusiasts eyes; the original is always their favorite. Ben Walker would be one of these people who have cherished the Hachiroku, and had a goal to make his own special AE86 from the ground up.

Ben’s AE86 was originally a blue stock standard Australian delivered example, and was purchased when he was 17. Fueled by his obsession with drifting, every dollar was put into his car to make it a daily driver. Unfortunately the 86 was rear ended, which made the car unusable.

This sparked the ground up build of his AE86, which required a new shell to begin the project. Ben set out to make (in his eyes) the ultimate street 86, and he immediately became infatuated with the idea. After reading through almost every forum in regards to CAMS, cages and the legalities, the first step in the build was to fabricate a half cage.

The cage is now CAMS approved and is integrated into the B pillars, floor and rear strut towers. The shell is also seam welded with all sound deadening removed.

The yellow chasis was used as the platform for the build, while Ben’s original blue AE86 was left for donor parts

Essentially, the engine, drive train and interior were carried over to the new shell.

All the paint work on the car was carried out by Ben with help from his dad and Luke from his local drift club (Third Strike). The color is a Xirallic white by Toyota

The interior features a Bride Zeta 3 drivers seat, 83′ M3 Recaro passenger seats, oil temp gauge, 350mm sparco wheel, and a fabricated lengthened gear stick with a 8 ball knob. Ben also swapped out the entire interior from a JDM AE86

The front guards where modified by Ben. They where flared and widened 30mm, and remain all metal up front. Perfect for getting full lock, while the car is low, without cracking any annoying fiberglass.

Ben has used alot of his own fabrication skills to complete the build, which took him 11 months to complete! Funnily enough, he already has more planned for 2012. According to Ben, we can expect to see a full S13 running gear with supporting mods to make 250RWKW.

Special thanks by Ben to his girlfriend Stacey, friends and family.
